Survival Builds
Survival-first builds are strong because they keep the run alive long enough for your other choices to matter.
In a biome-heavy roguelite, surviving well is a real build win condition. If your build cannot outlast route pressure, recover from mistakes, or leave bad fights, it often does not matter how impressive its damage looks on paper.

What Is A Survival Build In Everything Is Crab?
A survival build is a build that prioritizes:
- recovery
- clean disengage
- stable damage
- route control
- lower punishment for mistakes
It does not mean “never deal damage.” It means damage is only valuable if the run stays alive long enough to use it.
When Survival Builds Are Best
Survival builds are strongest when:
- you are still learning the game
- the biome is unfamiliar
- the route keeps collapsing before your scaling matters
- you want a cleaner first clear
- the run is offering safety tools but not yet a sharp specialization
How To Tell If Survival Is The Real Build Problem
Survival is probably the missing layer when:
- you die in fights that already looked technically winnable
- one mistake turns the whole run into a reset
- your damage seems fine, but your exits are bad
- you keep losing before bosses or before the build comes online
When To Pivot Out Of A Survival Build
Pivot when:
- your sustain is stable
- your movement is good enough that exits are no longer the main issue
- fights are now dragging too long
- the boss or biome is clearly asking for sharper damage or a more specialized answer
